The Wool Experience at Blaze Farm

The Wool Experience is an annual event at Blaze Farm with electric and hand sheep shearing demonstrations taking place throughout the day.

With our sheep shed teeming with local craft stalls with everything woolly that your heart could desire, it's a great place to see the creative use of raw fleece by expert spinners and skilled weavers.

We also run a competition section with this years category details as below:

Class 1: Handspun yarn - Competitor's own wheel or spindle spun yarn from any natural fibre, in laceweight thickness. Please label stating fibre content.
Class 2: Handspun yarn - Competitor's own wheel or spindle spun yarn from any natural fibre, in 4ply or Double knitting thickness. Please label stating fibre content.
Class 3: Handspun yarn - Competitor's own wheel or spindle spun yarn from any natural fibre, in Aran, Chunky, Super Chunky. Please label stating fibre content.
Class 4: Handspun Art yarn - Competitor's own wheel or spindle spun Art Yarn containing mainly natural fibres. Please label stating fibre content.
Class 5: Knitted item - Any hand knitted item made from competitor's own handspun yarn.
Class 6: Knitted item - Any hand knitted item made from yarn which is not handspun.
Class 7: Crochet item: Any hand crocheted item made from competitor's own handspun yarn.
Class 8: Crochet item: Any hand crocheted item made from yarn which is not handspun.
Class 9: Woven item - Any woven item made from competitor's own handspun yarn. ( Either entirely handspun or handspun weft with non-handspun warp threads will be accepted)
Class 10: Woven item - Any woven item made from yarn which is not handspun.
Class 11: Needle Felted item - Any item made by competitor using mainly needle felting techniques.
Class 12: Wet Felted item - Any item made by competitor using mainly wet felting techniques.
Class 13: Natural dyed yarn: Skein of yarn, batt or braid, dyed with natural dyes. Please label stating what dyes were used.
Class 14: Acid dyed yarn: Skein of yarn, batt or braid, dyed with acid or chemical dyes. Please label stating what dyes were used.
Class 15: Children's class - Any item made from a natural fibre.

Entries will be accepted until 12 noon on the day of the event - No entries after this time please.

Entries to be staged on the day. 50p fee per entry, payment on the day.

If you would like to enter any classes in advance then please email Diane Fisher at woolexperience@murmuringwheel.co.uk with your name, details of which classes you would like to enter, how many entries per class and a brief description of the items. This will give us an idea of how much space we need to devote to the competition area this year.

In all classes 2nd and 3rd places will receive a rosette - 1st place will receive a rosette and a small prize.

A list of stallholders will be available nearer the time.
